Nichol Tries Compromise Solution to Wren Cross Mess

December 20, university president Gene Nichol sent out an email to the student body and alumni of the College of William and Mary offering a compromise to the uproar he generated when he unilaterally decided to remove the cross from the historically Christian Wren Chapel. He reiterated his position that the cross remains unwelcoming to many in the College's community. Read the Emails and commentary at The Regents Voice.

The Nichols' compromise has been orchestrated to appear reasonable. The truth is that it is self-serving and, once again, was discussed only with those politically correct interest groups that were supportive in the first place. I doubt that Nichols will be dealt with by the Board of Visitors because they are the appointees of two successive Democratic governors. At this point, the only was for this situation to be changed is for the Alumni to withhold funds or for Nichols to voluntarily resign.

I agree, Bob and that is what many people are doing now. However, the Save The Wren Cross group is finding a lot of reporting going around regional states about this issue and most of it is not all that sympathetic to the university president.
